Lectionary Class is the chosen readings of the day.  The first reading is from the Old Testament, the second reading is from the New Testament and the third reading is from the Gospel.  The lessons provide unity in worship.  The words of the message in each lesson help us as Christians on our daily faith journey.  The class meets at 9:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

The Friendship Class studies "The Good, the Bad, and the Influential Women of the Bible."  The class will be using a series of books and study guides by Francine Rivers.  Join the class this summer for a fascinating study on the women mentioned in the genealogy of Christ.  The class, led by Darilyn Krieger, meets in the Parlor at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays.

The Wednesday Morning Bible Study group will begin a study on Revelation beginning this fall.  The class will meet in the Fellowship Hall on Wednesday mornings, 9:30-11:00 a.m. during the school year.  The class is on a summer hiatus.

ELCA's Book of Faith Initiative at Salem

Salem is participating in the ELCA's five-year initiative, "The Book of Faith", which encourages Lutherans to "become more fluent in the first language of our faith, the Scriptures."  Salem's Book of Faith involvement includes a Daily Reading Plan with readings assigned for each day.  "Y.T.T.", or "Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow" reading is encouraged, whereby each passage is read three times.  This reading style allows for a more complete understanding of the context of each daily passage and a greater familiarity with the selected passages.

Fellowship

Sunday@4

Each month on a Sunday at 4:00 p.m. a program and fellowship will be offered.  Join us on Sunday, Sept. 26, for "Blessing" with Julia Fox and Keith Weber in recital.  "Blessing is an inventive program which takes the "Twelve Poems of Emily Dickinson" of Aaron Copland and splits them into four three-song sections, taking narrative cues from the last song in each set to travel elsewhere, musically -- from Monteverdi to David Evan Thmoas!  A reception follow in the Fellowship Hall.  Everyone is asked to bring finger foods or desserts to share.  Upcoming Sunday@4 Events:  Oct. 24 - Social Networking, Nov. 14 -- Financial Planning presented by Pastor John Hunsicker of Lutheran Foundation of the Southwest.

Dinner & A Movie Group

Salem has a Dinner & A Movie group that meets monthly to discuss a current movie and have dinner together.  Participants view the movie on their own prior to the gathering.  This month, the group will meet on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 4:30 p.m. at Niko Nikos to discuss Get Low.
